When 60,000 spectators erupted in cheers at Allegiant Stadium during the Super Bowl on Sunday night, it wasn’t just the game that lit up the night – wearable lights on each person turned the entire audience into a part of the show.
The enchanting experience had its origins in the Montreal offices of Pixmob.
Nicolas Coallier-Fournier, lead programmer at Pixmob, expressed the impact of lighting up an audience, noting the palpable excitement and joy it brings to the crowd. Pixmob’s technology, known for its versatility, is a staple in various live events, spanning from concerts to sports games.
Last month, Pixmob illuminated the home opener of the Professional Women’s Hockey League Montreal team at the Verdun Auditorium. Now, its technology took center stage at one of the biggest sports events of the year – the Super Bowl.
“We’re a proud company. We’re proud of what we do,” mentioned Coallier-Fournier.
Pixmob’s technology is in a constant state of evolution. Coallier-Fournier detailed the two proprietary protocols employed, including radio frequencies for a simpler effect and a patented infrared protocol.
An infrared light in the stadium is directed at sections of the audience, creating dynamic shapes. The wearable lights, affixed to tuques, wristbands, and badges, contribute to the immersive experience.
After the show concludes, spectators return the devices as they exit. Pixmob ensures a commitment to sustainability by cleaning and recycling the gadgets back in Montreal.
